The Definition of Internet Marketing
A definition of internet marketing can be attempted by finding out the dictionary definitions of the two words “Internet” and “marketing.”
According to the Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary definition, “Internet” is “An electronic communications network that connects computer networks and organizational computer facilities around the world.”
The definition for “Marketing” is: The process or technique of promoting, selling and distributing a product or service.
Hence, if you combine the two definitions, then it is: “The process or technique of promoting, selling and distributing a product or service using an electronic communications network that connects computer networks and organizational computer facilities around the world.”
A more applicable definition of it can be given as “the application of the Internet to publicize and sell products or services.”
The method of Internet marketing involves:
1) Use of Websites and e-mail to educate the customers about a product or service
2) Invite questions from the customers and provide solutions
3) Receive their orders through the Internet as online orders
All products and services offered through a physical store can be sold online through Internet marketing. Sometimes, you get more from the Internet stores that you usually do not get from the actual stores.
When you sell a product in a physical shop, the customer has to visit the shop or make the order by phone. Then, the product or service will be delivered to the customer. Most of the times, this is a physical delivery of order.
Though the Internet marketing products are also delivered physically, some of the products require electronic delivery. For instance, information provided through eBooks, sound and video files are delivered in electronic format when you download them from the sites that provide these services. Though these are also available in hard copies as printed books, CDs and DVDs for physical delivery, most often the electronic products are the preferred delivery format of a majority of customers. This also eliminates the need for delivery charges.
There are several benefits associated with Internet marketing. Information is easily available for lesser cost. Most of the times, it is freely available for the user. Another important benefit is the time taken to access information. Within seconds, you are able to provide the necessary information to the potential customer through emails and other online tools.
Having one’s own website is an important aspect of any internet marketing business. Another vital factor is having a practical business idea and the strategies to make it work for a selected market. You first need to identify the potential market for your business and direct your online marketing techniques to attract that market and make them your regular customers. Selling unique products or services that are targeted to a niche market is the key for success in Internet marketing. As the web world is flooded with numerous business ideas and products, it is a challenge to find a product and market that is special and one of a kind. Once you are bale to find that, the rest is in your hands.
